Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol employed to encrypt the data exchanged between a server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to secure the information which customers submit on your site - a login page, a payment page if you run a web-based store, etc. Any data they input in any box on the Internet site shall be submitted safely to the server, so their login or payment data will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized individuals. In general, an SSL certificate requires a dedicated IP address to be set up, which means the overall cost for your presence online shall be bigger. While this might not be an issue for a larger firm, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small online store which does not generate big revenue if additional money should be spent. That's the reason why we've taken advantage of an extension called Server Name Indication (SNI) and we have made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.

Shared SSL IP in Cloud Website Hosting

A shared IP could be employed for any SSL certificate, regardless if you purchase it from us or from a different dealer and regardless of the cloud website hosting plan you have on our end. If you acquire the SSL from us, you will find this option on the certificate order page inside your hosting Control Panel where you could also take advantage of the 1-click automatic configuration option we offer. If the latter is selected inside the SSL order wizard, our system will install and set up everything for you through the specially configured server shared IP, therefore once you order and approve the SSL, there shall not be anything else to do on your end. You could save the funds that you will otherwise have to pay for a dedicated IP address and the SSL will function in the exact same way, so any info the website visitors submit shall be encoded. The only difference is that if you type the shared IP address instead of your domain name inside a browser, the website won't appear.

Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Servers

The shared IP option is available with all semi-dedicated plans and the setup takes merely a couple of clicks within the hosting Control Panel regardless if you order an SSL through our business or from a third-party vendor. There shall not be any difference in the way the certificate functions or encodes the information your site visitors submit, so your website will be protected without having to spend any additional funds for a dedicated IP. The only thing which will be different is that https://the-shared-IP shall not open your website, unlike https://the-dedicated-IP, but it is extremely unlikely that anyone shall ever try to access your site in this way rather than typing your domain name. We also offer an auto-configuration option for the SSLs purchased through our company and if you select it and you decide to use a shared IP as opposed to a dedicated one, our system will set everything up the minute the SSL is approved and issued with no need for any action on your end.
